Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel is the smell of the English countryside in the rain. There’s nothing else quite like it.
When this fragrance came out, it was a quality juice. Over the last 40+ years, it’s been reformulated multiple times, and although it’s still a nice fragrance, and a great “bang for the buck”, it’s definitely made “to a price”, which precludes many of the higher quality naturals that were once there.
This formula allows it to be made the way it was intended, using high quality ylang ylang, neroli, rosewood, galbanum, orris root, violet leaf, etc, for a finished product that’s much better and more refined than what’s sold today.
On a cool, rainy day, there’s no better fragrance (although Amouage Memoir, also available on this site, comes close).
Good stuff.

Update: After allowing this to mature and mixing it with alcohol at 18%, I sprayed this on one arm, and the commercially available Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel on the other. Throughout the dry-down, the best comparison I can make would be that it’s like listening to a familiar recording through the speaker on one’s phone, compared to listening to the same recording through good speakers. The notes are all the same, but the quality of this formula is better, and many more of the subtle nuances come through.
I’ve worn this several times now, and gotten comments each time.
Very happy to have this formula.
