Timbuktu is one of the legends in the perfume world – it is a quiet transparent smoky woody fragrance that may sometimes appear to be too pale but actually it has a strength beyond what the first sniff may suggest. Give this formula some time to macerate before judging it too quickly as a conventional vetiver. It is far from that and it has bigger projection than you may expect! Superb!

Fascinating to see this one on the “back end,” in particular to see how the green mango note is crafted with a hefty-ish dose of a certain synthetic that I hadn’t thought of. I’m always impressed by the way Timbuktu feels both substantial/woody and transparent/light. Seeing how it’s constructed, that duality makes a lot of sense!
