Widely criticized for not being a gardenia (including famously by Luca Turin who associated this with an airplane toilette cleaner), Gardenia is probably judged unfairly. Created originally in an entirely different era and modernized to fit the range of other fragrances by this house – sparkling, elegant abstract white florals, that do not scream but elegantly drape around the person wearing it. This formula is incredibly robust with very good tenacity especially after a month of maceration. What is interesting is that it doesn’t really have any particularly special or expensive ingredients. This is a really excellent simulacrum of the original. It goes beyond just recreating the “overall impression” of the scent and/or top notes, like some gc/ms based formulas do–this one smells super similar top to dry down. To top it off, it’s fairly simple to put together with readily found and affordable ingredients that you probably have a lot of in your palette. A pretty, creamy white floral with watery, green, fruity, and slightly indolic nuances.
